Privacy Policy
Last updated: November 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Boyuan Consulting LLC, doing business as Fusola ("Fusola," "we," "us"), collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when you use the Fusola app, the website at fusola.co, our emails, and related services (the "Service"). It also explains the choices and rights you have. Terms used here have the meaning given in our Terms of Service.
The short version
| Topic | In short |
|---|---|
| What we ask for | Your email, a name or nickname, your birth date, birth time (optional) and birthplace, plus whatever you choose to type or add. |
| What we never do | We don't sell your personal information, don't share it for targeted advertising, don't show ads, and don't use third-party advertising or tracking tools. |
| AI | With your permission, our AI providers receive chart features we derive from birth details, never your name, email, or birth date, time or place as you entered them. If you use Ask the I Ching, they also receive the question you type. |
| Other people | If you add someone to Circle, we use their details only to create your Readings. We never contact them; if you want them to know, you invite them yourself. |
| Your control | You can delete your account at any time in Settings, and its contents are deleted except as described in Section 7. You can email us to access or correct your information. |
1. Who this policy covers
This policy applies to everyone who uses the Service, and to people whose details a user adds to Circle. The Service is intended for people 16 and older (see Section 10). The company responsible for your information (the "controller") is Boyuan Consulting LLC, whose contact details are in Section 15.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Information you give us
- Account details: email address; the name or nickname you choose; your language.
- Sign-in information: if you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive from them an account identifier, your email address (or, if you chose Hide My Email, an Apple relay address that forwards to you) and, if you allow it, your name. We use this only to create and secure your account. We never receive your Apple or Google password.
- Birth details: birth date; birth time and how precise it is (optional); birthplace, which we convert to a time zone and map coordinates. We don't ask for your gender. If you gave it in an earlier version of Fusola, we no longer use it, and it is removed the next time you save your birth details or when you delete your account.
- Age confirmations: if you use Fusola before adding a birth date, your confirmation that you are 16 or older and, before paying, that you are 18 or older. If you enter a birth date showing you are under 16, we don't save that birth date; the account is disabled and then deleted (see Section 10.1).
- Optional details you choose to share: your relationship status (used to tailor Today and Boop suggestions); questions and background you type into Ask the I Ching, and notes you add to those Readings; the Five-Element name you choose (a PLUS feature); and reactions you give to pages (such as "That's me").
- Consents and preferences: your acceptance of the Terms and this policy, whether you agreed to marketing emails, and notification settings.
- Communications: what you send us when you email us for support or with feedback.
2.2 Information about people you add to Circle
When you add someone to Circle, we collect what you provide about them: the name or nickname you give them, their relationship to you, their birth date, birth time (optional) and birthplace (stored as a time zone and coordinates). If they accept your invite, these details come from their own Fusola account instead. For a child added by a parent or guardian, see Section 10.3.
2.3 Information created when you use the Service
- Readings and history: your chart and Readings, Deep Dives, Year Books, monthly readings, Duets, the Today suggestions you were shown, the Boops you shook and your stamps, who you passed a Boop to and which of them used it, and your Ask the I Ching history.
- Usage information (first-party analytics): which screens and features you open, when, for how long, and in what order; app version, device type and operating system; an installation identifier; how fast our servers respond and whether requests fail; crash and error information; and, for website visitors, the campaign tag of the link that brought you (such as utm_source). We collect this with our own tools and keep it in our own database. It never includes your name, email, birth details, or the text of your questions or Readings.
- Purchase information: what you bought, the price, date, store, and transaction and subscription status. We never receive or store your full card number. Apple or Stripe processes your payment details.
- A visit to a Boop link without an account: if you shake a Boop from a link without signing in, we store a record of the visit on your device for that day (a random visit ID and the Boop you shook) and record the visit on our servers, so we can carry the Boop over if you sign up and count how links are used. Visits that never become an account aren't linked to anyone.
- Technical information: your IP address, used briefly to prevent abuse (in rate-limit counters that expire within a day) and kept for a limited time in our hosting provider's standard server logs; device push token, if you allow notifications.
2.4 Information from others
- Apple and RevenueCat: confirmation of App Store purchases and subscription status (we don't receive your Apple ID payment details).
- Apple (age range): where the law requires app stores to confirm users' ages (for example, in Texas), and only if you allow it, the age range Apple holds for your Apple Account (such as 16–17 or 18 and older). The iOS app uses it on your device to decide whether it can open for you; we don't store it. If it shows you're under 16 and you haven't added a birth date, we disable your account as described in Section 10.1.
- Stripe: confirmation of website payments and limited payment details (such as card brand and last four digits).
- Other users: details about you that another user enters in Circle (Section 6), and the fact that someone invited you or passed you a Boop.
2.5 Information we don't want
Please don't give us sensitive information such as health or medical information, government ID numbers, financial account numbers, or information about your racial or ethnic origin, religion, sexual orientation, or immigration status, including in Ask the I Ching questions. We don't ask for these, and the Service doesn't need them.
3. How we use information
We use personal information to:
- Provide the Service: calculate your chart; generate and show your Readings, Deep Dives, Year Books, monthly readings, Duets and Ask the I Ching Readings; run Circle, Boop and your account.
- Process purchases and subscriptions: confirm payments, grant and track products and credits, handle refunds, and keep accounting and tax records.
- Communicate with you: send sign-in codes, notices that a Reading is ready, receipts, subscription and renewal notices, service and policy updates, and responses to your messages. Marketing emails (such as news about new features and seasonal events) are sent only if you opted in, and every one has an unsubscribe link.
- Keep Fusola safe: enforce age requirements and our Terms, prevent fraud, abuse and spam, protect our systems, and fix errors.
- Improve the Service: understand how features are used, measure performance and reliability, and improve our Readings, for example by learning which pages people say ring true. We don't use the information of users we know are under 18 for this purpose (Section 10.2).
- Meet legal obligations and protect our rights, our users and others.
We don't use your information to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you, and we don't build advertising profiles.
4. How AI is used
Some Readings (currently Deep Dive chapters, Year Books, Duets and Ask the I Ching readings) are written with the help of AI models from third-party AI providers, under each provider's terms for business customers. Other Readings, such as your free reading, Today and monthly readings, are currently written by our own software, without AI; we may use AI for them in the future, under the same rules as below.
- What AI providers receive: chart features that our software derives from birth details, such as the balance of the Five Elements, seasonal and calendar features, and the results of our own calculations. For a Duet, they receive the same kind of features for the person you add and the relationship type. For Ask the I Ching, they also receive the question and background you type, exactly as you wrote them, so leave out anything you don't want to share.
- What AI providers do not receive: your name or email, your birth date, time or place as you entered them, or the name of anyone you add. We insert names into Readings ourselves, after the text comes back.
- Storage and training: AI providers process this information as our service providers. Under their terms as they currently stand, they don't use data we send them to train their models unless a customer opts in (we don't). They generally delete it within 30 days. They may keep it longer if the law requires it, or if their automated safety systems flag a request as violating their usage policies: in that case for up to 2 years, and the related safety scores for up to 7 years.
Your permission. Before any of your information, or that of a person you add, is sent to an AI provider for the first time, we ask for your explicit permission and tell you that it goes to a third-party AI. If you say no, or later withdraw permission in Settings, features written with AI won't be available to you; the rest of Fusola still works.
5. How we share information
We don't sell personal information, and we don't "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined under California and other state privacy laws. We have not done so in the last 12 months. We share personal information only as follows:
5.1 Service providers
We use the following companies to run the Service on our behalf, under terms that limit their use of the information to providing services to us:
| Provider | What they do for us |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Database and sign-in |
| Vercel | Website and server hosting |
| Third-party AI providers | Writing parts of Readings (see Section 4) |
| Resend | Sending emails |
| Apple and Google | Signing in, if you choose to use them |
| RevenueCat | Tracking App Store purchases and subscription status |
| Expo and Apple Push Notification service | Delivering push notifications |
| Upstash | Abuse prevention (rate limits) |
| Sentry | Crash and error reports, without your name, email, or birth details |
We may change providers over time and will update this list.
Payment companies. Apple (for App Store purchases) and Stripe (for website payments) process your payment as independent companies under their own privacy policies, including for their own fraud prevention. We share with them only what is needed to complete and manage your purchase.
5.2 People you choose to share with
- Circle: when you send a link or show a code, or accept someone's, both of you see each other's name or nickname and relationship label. A Duet reaches the other person only if you send it to them.
- A "You two" card: the person you send it to sees your name, the relationship you picked, your result and one line about the two of you. No birth date, time or place is ever shown. You can hide names and elements on images you share.
- A code shown in person: when you scan a code another user shows you in Fusola and finish signing up, you both agree to connect in Circle, and either of you can remove the connection at any time from the other person's page in Circle.
- Boop: people you pass a Boop to, and anyone who opens a Boop link you share while the link is active (currently 7 days), can see your first name and the element you sent.
- Share cards and links: anything you share through your device's share sheet goes wherever you send it.
5.3 Legal reasons and safety
We may disclose information if we believe in good faith it is required by law, subpoena or other legal process, or necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of Fusola, our users or others, or to investigate fraud or security issues.
5.4 Business transfers
If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization or sale of all or part of our business, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
5.5 With your consent
We may share information for other purposes with your consent.
6. Information about other people (Circle)
- How it's used: details of a person you add by hand are used only to create your own Readings with them. We don't use them to contact that person, build a profile of them, or for any other purpose.
- We don't contact them: we never collect their phone number or email, and we don't message someone you added by hand. They hear about Fusola only if you invite them or send them something yourself.
- Readings don't contain birth details: Duets and share cards don't show anyone's birth date, time or place.
- If you were added by someone: you can ask us to delete details about you that another user entered. Email us at the address in Section 15 with enough information for us to find the record (for example, the user who added you and your birth date). We'll verify the request and delete what we find, including Duets made from it.
7. How long we keep information
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Account, birth details, Readings, paid content, Circle and history | Until you delete your account (or the specific item). |
| A person you add to Circle and your Duets with them | Until you remove that person or delete your account. A Duet you sent stays with the person you sent it to. We keep a minimal record that a credit was used, without their details. |
| Usage information (analytics) | While your account exists, and deleted with it. Usage information collected before you signed in is kept only with a random installation identifier, for up to 24 months. |
| Purchase and payment records | As long as tax, accounting and legal rules require (generally up to 7 years). After you delete your account, we keep them without your birth details or Readings. |
| Records of your agreement to the Terms and to automatic renewal | At least 3 years, or 1 year after your subscription ends if longer, as some state laws require. |
| Record that an under-16 birth date was entered | Only the fact and the date, until the account is deleted (within 30 days). |
| Rate-limit counters | Less than a day. |
| Server logs and error reports | For a limited period set by our hosting and error-reporting providers. |
| Support emails | As long as we need them to help you, and deleted when you ask. |
| Backups | Deleted data may remain in encrypted backups for a limited period before they are overwritten. |
When you delete your account, your birth details, email, Readings (including any Deep Dive or Year Book you bought), your Circle and Duets, your Five-Element name and seal, and your Today, Boop and Ask the I Ching history are deleted right away from our active systems and can't be restored. If another user is connected to you in Circle, Duets they already created stay in their account, but no new Duets can be made from your account details. A Duet you already sent to someone also stays in their account so they can keep reading it; it keeps the first name they saw on it and, like every Duet, contains no birth details (Section 6). If you signed in with Apple, deleting your account also removes Fusola's access from your Apple Account.
8. How we protect information
We use administrative, technical and physical safeguards appropriate to the information we hold, including encryption in transit, encryption of birth details, your chart and any Deep Dive before they are stored, access controls with multi-factor authentication for our back office, and limits on who can access personal information. No system is perfectly secure. If a data breach affects your personal information and the law requires notice, we'll notify you, and the authorities where required, within the time the law requires.
9. Your choices and rights
9.1 For everyone
Wherever you live, you can:
- Access the personal information we hold about you, and get a copy in a portable format.
- Correct inaccurate information (note that birth details locked for a paid Reading can't be changed for that Reading).
- Delete your account and its information in Settings, or ask us to delete specific information.
- Opt out of marketing emails in Settings or with the unsubscribe link in any marketing email.
- Turn off push notifications in your device settings.
- Withdraw consent where we rely on it, such as for AI processing. This won't affect processing that already happened, and some features may then be unavailable.
9.2 Additional rights under state law
Depending on where you live (for example, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Montana, Oregon, Texas, Virginia and other states with comprehensive privacy laws), you may also have the right to know the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected, the sources, purposes and recipients; to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information or of targeted advertising (we don't do either); to limit the use of sensitive personal information; and not to be discriminated against for exercising your rights. We will honor requests to access, correct and delete information from all users, wherever they live.
Global Privacy Control. We don't sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of. We nonetheless treat a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser as a valid opt-out request.
9.3 How to make a request
Email us at the address in Section 15 from your account email, or use the in-app controls. We'll respond within 45 days (or the time required by the law that applies to you), and we may ask you to confirm your identity, usually by confirming a code sent to your account email. You may use an authorized agent; we may ask the agent for proof of authority and ask you to verify your identity. If we deny your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision with the subject line "Privacy Appeal"; we'll respond within the time required by law. If your appeal is denied, you may contact your state attorney general.
9.4 California disclosures
In the last 12 months, we collected these categories of personal information, from the sources and for the purposes described in Sections 2 and 3: identifiers (email, name or nickname, installation identifier, IP address); personal characteristics (age); commercial information (purchases and subscriptions); internet or other electronic network activity (usage information); approximate geolocation (birthplace coordinates and time zone; we don't collect your current location); inferences (Readings, which are entertainment content and are not used to profile you); and sensitive personal information only to the extent that something you choose to type, such as an Ask the I Ching question, may qualify. We don't use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you. We disclosed each category for business purposes to the service providers in Section 5.1. We don't sell or share personal information, and we have no actual knowledge of selling or sharing the personal information of consumers under 16. Retention is described in Section 7.
Shine the Light. We don't disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes.
10. Children and teens
10.1 Under 16
Fusola is not for anyone under 16. We don't knowingly allow anyone under 16 to create an account. We never knowingly collect personal information directly from a child under 13. If we learn that a person under 16 has created an account, we disable it right away and delete the account, with its personal information, within 30 days. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us at the address in Section 15.
10.2 Users who are 16 or 17
Users aged 16 and 17 can use the free features but can't make purchases. Because they give us their birth date, we know they are minors, and we treat their information accordingly. We process it only as strictly necessary to provide the features they ask for, to keep the Service secure, and to comply with the law. We never sell their information or use it for advertising. We don't use it for marketing, send them marketing emails, or use their usage information to improve the Service, unless the law allows it and, where required, we first get their informed consent through a separate request they can decline or withdraw at any time. We tell our service providers when information belongs to a minor.
10.3 Children added by a parent or guardian
In Circle, only a parent or legal guardian who is 18 or older can add someone under 18, and only their own child aged 13 to 17. In that case, the information comes from the parent or guardian, not from the child, and we keep as little as possible: the child's name or nickname, birth date, birth time (optional), time zone, and a birth location rounded to the nearest degree (enough for the chart, not enough to point to where the child lives). We never contact a child, never show a child's name on share cards, never send a child's name or birth details to our AI providers (only the same abstract chart features described in Section 4), and a Reading about a child can't be sent to anyone. The parent or guardian can delete the child's information at any time by removing the child from Circle.
11. Cookies, local storage and tracking
We don't use advertising or third-party tracking cookies or SDKs, and we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites. On the website, we use your browser's local storage to keep you signed in until you sign out, and session storage to hold your answers to the reading questions until they're saved to your account (closing the tab clears them). Our first-party analytics (Section 2.3) use a random installation identifier stored on your device. Because we don't track you across sites, we don't respond differently to "Do Not Track" signals. On our website's sign-in pages, if you use Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google, Apple's or Google's sign-in script loads and may set its own cookies under its privacy policy. The iOS app includes Apple's and Google's sign-in tools for the same purpose.
12. International users
Fusola is designed for and offered to people in the United States. It is operated from the United States, and your information is processed and stored in the United States and in other countries where our service providers operate. Data protection laws there may differ from those where you live.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we process your personal information on these legal bases: performance of a contract (to provide the Service and process purchases); consent (marketing emails, notifications, and sending your data to our AI providers), which you can withdraw at any time; legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention, improving the Service with first-party analytics, and handling Circle details you provide, balanced against the rights of the people concerned); and legal obligation (tax and accounting records). Where we transfer your information outside your region, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, where our providers participate in it. In addition to the rights in Section 9, you have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests, to restrict processing, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
13. Notifications and emails
We send transactional emails (sign-in codes, receipts, renewal and service notices) that you can't opt out of while you have an account, because they're needed to run it. Marketing emails are opt-in only. Push notifications are sent only if you allow them on your device.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. If a change is material, we'll notify you by email or in the app before it takes effect and update the "Last updated" date. If a change would let us use personal information in a materially different way from what we said when we collected it, we'll ask for your consent where required.
