2027: Year of the Fire Goat (Ding Wei)
2027 is the Year of the Fire Goat, Ding Wei in the Chinese calendar. Lunar New Year falls on February 6, 2027, and the year runs to January 25, 2028. In BaZi, the year begins two days earlier, at the Start of Spring on February 4.

The year has two start dates. Lunar New Year follows the moon and is when the year is celebrated. BaZi follows the sun and counts the year from the Start of Spring, one of the 24 solar terms. If you were born between the two dates, the zodiac animal and the BaZi year can disagree.
What Ding Wei means
Every year in the Chinese calendar has two characters. 2027's are Ding and Wei.
- Ding is Yin Fire, the lamp of the ten heavenly stems. Read about the Yin Fire day master.
- Wei is the Goat, one of the twelve earthly branches. It is an Earth branch of late summer that still holds some warmth from the season before it.
So the year is Fire sitting over Earth, and in the five-element cycle Fire keeps Earth going: what Fire burns turns into ground. By the five elements alone, that is a warm, settled pairing. How that lands for one person depends on whether Fire and Earth are elements their own chart needs or already has plenty of.
Born in a Goat year
Goat years come around every twelve years: 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015 and 2027. The last Fire Goat year was 1967; before that, 1907.
If your birthday falls between January 21 and February 20, check the Lunar New Year date for your birth year: you may belong to the year before.

2026 is Bing Wu, Yang Fire over a Fire branch: Fire on Fire. 2027 is Ding Wei, the softer Yin Fire over an Earth branch, so the heat has somewhere to settle.
