Ding · Yin Fire day master
The Yin Fire day master: the lamp
Yin Fire, also called Ding Fire, is one of the ten day masters in BaZi, the Chinese Four Pillars. In short, like a lamp: soft on the outside, clear within, and can light up one thing, or one person, all the way through.
What Yin Fire is like
In BaZi the Yin Fire day master is pictured as the lamp, the smaller, more inward form of Fire. People with this day master tend to share a few habits:
- Thinks before speaking, and it shows.
- Notices the one detail everyone else missed, and remembers it a year later.
- Keeps a small circle and tends it with care.
You can usually spot a Yin Fire: the one who remembers your coffee order, your dog's name and the thing you said you were nervous about.

Yin Fire and Yang Fire
Yin Fire and Yang Fire share an element and differ in scale: the lamp and the sun. Yang Fire: warm and open, lights up every room it walks into, and wears its feelings on its face.
Where Fire sits among the five elements
Fire belongs to summer, the south and the color red. Wood keeps Fire going, and what Fire leaves behind turns to Earth. Water puts it out. Fire melts Metal, the way a forge does.
| Relationship | Element |
|---|---|
| Keeps Fire going | Wood |
| Fire keeps going | Earth |
| Keeps Fire in check | Water |
| Fire keeps in check | Metal |
These are the traditional relationships between elements. In a real chart they are only a starting point: what helps one Yin Fire person can crowd another, depending on how much Fire the rest of the chart already has. How the five elements work.
Yin Fire in love
Yin Fire opens up slowly and goes deep once it does. Your details get remembered, and the hope is that you remember theirs. Being taken for granted hurts more than any loud argument.
Yin Fire at work
Focused, careful work suits them, the kind that needs attention on one thing for a long time, such as writing, research, design or fine craft. Quiet and a clear brief bring out their best.
Getting along with Yin Fire
Small things land with a Yin Fire: a message that remembers what they told you last week, a plan you actually kept. Trust comes slowly and the list of close people is short. If something is off between you, say so early, or it gets worked through alone, in their head.
What tends to help
If you're Yin Fire, what tends to help is permission to be seen doing the thing, not just doing it quietly. BaZi also asks how much Fire the rest of your chart holds. With a lot of it, the habits above run louder and the work is finding somewhere for all of it to go. With little, the same habits are there with less behind them, and rest takes longer to do its job. How to know if you're Yin Fire
Your day master is the heavenly stem of the day you were born, counted on the Chinese solar calendar. Each of the ten stems comes around once every ten days, so about one person in ten is Yin Fire. Your birthday is enough to find it; if you were born close to midnight, the hour can decide which day counts. Fusola calls this your Core.
Your day master is a different thing from the element of your birth year, the one paired with your zodiac animal. Plenty of Yin Fire people were born in a year of another element.
The other half of the label
In Fusola, the day master is half of your type. The other half is your shaping force, the strongest of ten forces in your chart (the Ten Gods, in BaZi books). Together they make a label like Yin Fire · Grit, one of 100. The ten shaping forces.

Is Ding Fire the same as Yin Fire?
Yes. Ding is the Chinese name of the heavenly stem, so English BaZi books call it either Ding Fire or Yin Fire.
What is the difference between Yin Fire and Yang Fire?
They share the element and differ in scale. Yin Fire is the lamp; Yang Fire is the sun. The Yin form is smaller and more inward, and it shows in how each one handles people.
Is Yin Fire the same as being born in a Fire year?
No. The year element comes from your birth year and goes with your zodiac animal. The day master comes from your birth day, so a Yin Fire day master can be born in any year.
How rare is the Yin Fire day master?
Not rare. The ten heavenly stems take turns, one per day, so roughly one person in ten has any given day master, Yin Fire included.
What element is good for Yin Fire?
It depends on the whole chart. BaZi weighs how strong your Fire is against everything else in your four pillars, so two Yin Fire people can need different things. Your free reading shows how much of each element your chart holds.
Does a Yin Fire day master decide my personality?
In BaZi it describes one part of it. The day master is one of eight characters in a BaZi chart, and the rest of the chart changes how it shows up. That is why Fusola pairs it with a shaping force.
Which day masters get along with Yin Fire?
The element cycle gives a first impression: Wood keeps Fire going and Fire keeps Earth going. How two people actually get along depends on both full charts, which is what a Duet reading in Fusola looks at.
