BaZi basics

The Ten Gods, in plain English

The Ten Gods are the ten ways the other elements in a BaZi chart relate to your day master. Fusola calls them shaping forces: the strongest one in your chart says a lot about how your day master behaves.

Where the names come from

BaZi books call these the Ten Gods (also the Ten Deities, or Shi Shen). Each one is a relationship between your day master and another element in your chart: the same element as you, the element you feed, the one you control, the one that controls you, and the one that feeds you, each in a matching or opposite polarity. That makes ten.

The traditional English names (Rob Wealth, Seven Killings, Hurting Officer) are word-for-word translations and sound more alarming than they are. Fusola uses plainer names for what each force looks like in a person.

How it fits with your day master

Your day master is the element you are. Your shaping force is the strongest of these ten relationships in your chart, the one BaZi reads as doing the most to shape how that element shows up. Two Yang Water people read very differently if one is shaped by Grit and the other by Delight.

Questions people ask

What are the Ten Gods in BaZi?

Ten relationships between your day master and the other elements in your chart, named in classical texts as Friend, Rob Wealth, Eating God, Hurting Officer, Indirect and Direct Wealth, Seven Killings, Direct Officer, and Indirect and Direct Resource.

Is Seven Killings bad?

No. The name is a literal translation. In a person it usually shows up as nerve under pressure and the habit of making the hard call. Fusola calls it Grit.

How do I find my strongest Ten God?

It takes the whole chart: every character is compared with your day master and weighed by where it sits. Your free reading names your shaping force alongside your day master.
