The Yang Metal day master: the blade

What Yang Metal is like

In BaZi the Yang Metal day master is pictured as the blade, the larger, more outward form of Metal. People with this day master tend to share a few habits:

• Does the hard thing first and never complains about it.
• Hurt a friend of theirs and see what happens.
• Gets sharper under pressure; hard times are where they're made.

You can usually spot a Yang Metal: the one who answers "Should I text him?" with one word: "No."

The blind spot

Gives feedback like a paper cut: fast, clean, and you feel it all day.

Yang Metal and Yin Metal

Yang Metal and Yin Metal share an element and differ in scale: the blade and the jewel. Yin Metal: polished and refined, with high standards and a strong sense of its own worth.

Where Metal sits among the five elements

Metal belongs to autumn, the west and the color white. Earth carries Metal, and Metal gathers Water, the way dew forms on cold iron. Fire melts it. Metal cuts Wood.

These are the traditional relationships between elements. In a real chart they are only a starting point: what helps one Yang Metal person can crowd another, depending on how much Metal the rest of the chart already has. How the five elements work.

Yang Metal in love

Yang Metal says what it means in love too, and expects the same back. Romance can look practical; the commitment under it is solid.

Yang Metal at work

Hard calls do not faze them. Clear results and high standards suit them, and so do colleagues who hold the same line.

Getting along with Yang Metal

Expect opinions in as few words as possible, and loyalty that holds up when it is inconvenient. Only ask a Yang Metal what they think when you want the real answer. Show up late twice and they stop mentioning it, which is worse.

What tends to help

If you're Yang Metal, what tends to help is a discipline with an external standard you didn't invent and can't argue with. BaZi also asks how much Metal the rest of your chart holds. With a lot of it, the habits above run louder and the work is finding somewhere for all of it to go. With little, the same habits are there with less behind them, and rest takes longer to do its job. How to know if you're Yang Metal

Your day master is the heavenly stem of the day you were born, counted on the Chinese solar calendar. Each of the ten stems comes around once every ten days, so about one person in ten is Yang Metal. Your birthday is enough to find it; if you were born close to midnight, the hour can decide which day counts. Fusola calls this your Core.

Your day master is a different thing from the element of your birth year, the one paired with your zodiac animal. Plenty of Yang Metal people were born in a year of another element.

The other half of the label

In Fusola, the day master is half of your type. The other half is your shaping force, the strongest of ten forces in your chart (the Ten Gods, in BaZi books). Together they make a label like Yang Metal · Grit, one of 100. The ten shaping forces.
